Architects share art studio prototypes

Creating prototypes of a portable artist studio has several University of Oregon graduate students in architecture visiting Sisters fairly regularly. Two of the students, Halla Hoffer and Jenn Pecenka, spoke to the Sisters Rotary Club at their weekly lunch meeting on Tuesday, July 19.

The project began in April, with 16 students tasked with coming up with ideas for sustainable, movable spaces that an artist could live and work in. With support from The Roundhouse Foundation of Sisters, the students came to Sisters in May, visiting the Sisters Art Works building and meeting with several local artists who work in various mediums.

They shared their ideas with the artists, returning to campus with more ideas. In June, a group from Sisters visited to view the latest models.

The recent visit with Rotary increases awareness for this unique project. Rotarian Rick Judy stayed after the meeting to chat with the young women. He also was present during their visit to Sisters in May.

"I'm impressed with the research they have done and their vision. They are serious students and very open to suggestions," said Judy.

Hoffer and Pecenka said they will return in September during the Sisters Folk Festival. The students plan to set up a booth to display the designs to the public.
