News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Local kids will have a new place to play next month, thanks to a donation by the Kiwanis Club of Sisters.
The club donated $25,000 worth of playground equipment for Cliff Clemens Park, at the north end of town. The apparatus includes a swing set, a play structure and spin cups.
"People are really excited because actual swing sets are coming to Sisters," said city planner Pauline Hardie.
Installation of the equipment will cost about $12,000, including 130 cubic yards of playground chips laid down for fall protection.
"We put it out to bid to all the local contractors, and GJ Miller was the low bid," said Public Works Director Paul Bertagna.
The Kiwanis Club contributed $2,500 toward the installation; the balance comes from the City of Sisters Park Development Fund.
Bertagna said that installation should be complete at the beginning of the month, but the city won't cut the ribbon on the project until it receives a safety inspection. He expects the facility to be ready for excited kids by the first or second weekend of August.
