News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The dog days of summer are upon us, and so is the inaugural Dog Days Fun Run/Walk, which gives local runners a chance to run in a race along with their canine friends. The race, scheduled for Saturday, August 6, is sponsored by Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) and is part of the Dog Days of Summer celebration (see related story, this page).
The 5-kilometer course starts and finishes near the SPRD building, located at 1750 W. McKinney Butte Rd., and traverses the trails on the land surrounding Sisters High School.
The early registration rate of $20 ends at 4 p.m. August 4 at the SPRD office. The cost is $25 after August 4. A family rate for three or more people is a total of $50. Complete information is available at www.
sistersrecreation.com or by calling 541-549-2091.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the race is on at 8 a.m. sharp. Members of the Sisters High School cross-country team will be helping as volunteers for the
race.
"While the event encourages runners with dogs, people are welcome to come without a dog," said Anne Heath, of SPRD.
Leashes are required for all dogs before, during, and after the race, according to Heath.
"We want everyone to have a fun, safe time with their dogs," she said.
