News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters is going to the dogs this weekend in the first-ever Dog Days of Sisters.
The event will be held at Sisters Art Works, 204 W. Adams Ave. and the surrounding area on Saturday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dog Days of Sisters includes a combination of art featured at the Sisters Art Works building, pet products, adopt-a-pet, agility demos, games, photos and a raffle basket filled with dog goodies.
Kick the day off at 8 a.m. with Sisters Park & Recreation District and their Dog Days 5K Fun Run/Walk. Registration is $20 for pre-registration and $25 day-of-event and is available by calling 541-549-2091. All proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk will go toward the SOAR Foundation Scholarship fund to scholarship young people to attend SPRD activities and camps.
The remainder of the day's events will take place at Sisters Art Works.
"We're looking forward to seeing the many pets of Sisters Country at this event," says Jeri Buckmann, events director at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. "Admission is free, and any animal-lover should attend and enjoy the art show, many pet accessories and events, and of course the animals
themselves!"
Jan Gould, of Dusty Boots Farms Miniature Australian Shepherds, will be present to give several demonstrations including Agility Jumpers from 10 a.m. to noon; rally/obedience from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.; and Intro to Treiball (ball herding) from 3 to 5 p.m.
Bring your dog along to test their "sit-stay."
Gould has been showing her mini-Aussies for many years and has won several titles.
"Agility is such fun for the dogs," she said. "It's an opportunity for them to try new things and be challenged - I believe they enjoy that!"
The Sisters Art Works Third Annual Dog Art Show will coincide with all of the activities. A portion of the proceeds from art that is sold will be contributed to Furry Friends. Furry Friends partners with the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank to distribute food and funds to needy pets in Sisters Country.
Also on hand will be the folks from Central Bark, showcasing their dog-powered scooters, as seen on "Animal Planet."
In addition to all of the activities and demonstrations, bring your dog along for a pet photo shoot. Cooper Gould and Friends will help those pups get "Wet & Wild by the Pool" for their great summer photo shoot. All proceeds from the pet photos will be donated to Furry Friends.
