Fundraiser to benefit bereaved Sisters family

As it does so often, the Sisters community will rally on August 20 to help a local family in distress.

Andy Hartford was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Three Creek Road on July 5, leaving a wife and young children behind. Family friend Holly McIntosh is organizing a benefit event on Saturday, August 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Takoda's Restaurant to help the family with expenses.

"My goal with the fundraiser is to get them enough money to get them through until the Social Security (death benefit) comes through and then have enough savings so that they're not living paycheck-to-paycheck and always stressing about money," McIntosh told The Nugget.

Everyone in the community is invited to participate.

"The biggest thing I want to stress to people is that it's a public event," McIntosh said.

The event will include a horseshoe pitching tournament at $10 per player. Five dollars goes into the winner's pool; $5 goes to the family.

The bulk of the fundraising will come from a silent auction and McIntosh is enthusiastic about the quality of the items generously donated to help the Hartford family. The auction includes an African wildlife safari; salmon fishing trip; pheasant hunting; golf packages and more.

The band Poor Man's Roses will entertain, and there will be games and activities, including face-painting for the kids.

Additionally, an ongoing raffle held through Hardtails Bar and Grill will wrap up and the winners will be announced at the event.

McIntosh said Andy's widow, Kym Hartford, is very grateful for the outpouring of sympathy and support from the Sisters community.

"She really wants to thank everybody for their generosity," McIntosh said. "She is super grateful for all the generosity this town has shown her."

There is a donation account under Kym Hartford's name at South Valley Bank.
