News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Mary Beth Pearl-Gent died peacefully Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the age of 67 after battling pancreatic cancer for more than a year.
Born in Miami, Florida, Ms.
Pearl-Gent spent most of her childhood in Southern Illinois.
Beth and her first husband Roy A. Pearl (deceased), moved out West where she dedicated her life to working with children.
Her accomplishments in the area of library science have benefited schools in the Central Oregon area and include such accomplishments as appointment by the Governor to the State Library Board in 2006 and active membership on the Deschutes Public Library District Board up to the time of her death.
Knowing that if you didn't know the answer, you could always look it up, Ms.
Pearl-Gent was a lifelong learner and teacher, helping the rest of us along the way.
In addition, she was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and music.
With her second husband, Harry Gent, she continued her avid interest in exploring and, together, they travelled often.
Ms. Pearl-Gent is survived by spouse Harry Gent, daughter Lisa Pearl, son Allan Pearl and sisters Donna Edwards and Alice Keller. She was a friend, a kind soul, someone tenacious in her endeavors and graceful in her execution. She will be missed.
Memorial services are pending at this time. Contributions may be made in her name to the Deschutes Public Library or the Friends of the Sisters Library.
