News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To the Editor:
It has been a wonderful experience teaching music at Sisters Elementary School the past eight years.
Recently, I was offered a teaching position in the Denver area with Cherry Creek School District, a nationally regarded school system. The opportunity occurred suddenly and required a quick reply. I accepted the position yet feel reluctant leaving many friends, families, and most of all the students of the Sisters community.
I will always have special memories of our time together. Many of you have touched the lives of my whole family and became a part of our extended family. We will always have a special place in our hearts for Sisters.
Sisters has incredible community support, especially with arts and music. It has been a pleasure to teach here and make music together. Thank you!
Our best to everyone,
Debi Schlatter

Just passed through town on the way to Eugene August 16, and read The Nugget. Read the fantastic idea that the city planners have to kick in $200,000 from locals to get the $5 million to do the virtual landscape improvements to Cascade Avenue.
Regarding the federal money (which we all contribute to) of $5 million to improve Cascade (Hwy. 20) to go through Sisters, I do have a question: Why not focus on the homeless? Or schools? Or tourism and marketing? Or flowers that don't cost $5 million?
What will this project do to the businesses in Sisters on Cascade? Close half of the stores that are here?
