News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
More than 50 people of all ages and athletic abilities came to the tennis courts in Sage Meadow this past Thursday to see a demonstration of Pickleball.
Most people accepted the invitation to join in and tried it themselves, finding it to be easy to learn, invigorating, and lots of fun.
"Even a guy with gimpy knees can play this game," said Bob Winn.
Winn had a knee replacement done about eight weeks ago, and this was an opportunity for him to give his new knee a good test in a sport that wasn't too hard on it. He quickly learned the game and had a great time with no ill effects. Even though the game has many of the same aspects as tennis, it's played on a much smaller court and is therefore less strenuous and taxing on the body.
Pickleball will continue to be played at the tennis courts in Sage Meadow every Tuesday and Saturday morning, from 9 to 11 a.m. on a drop-in basis. The public is invited. All skill levels are welcome to come and learn to play.
To reach the courts, travel two miles north of Sisters on Camp Polk Road, then go left one mile on W. Meadow Parkway. The courts are on the left. Wear tennis-type shoes that will not damage the court surface.
