News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The flagpole that stands on the grounds of the Sisters School District Administration Building has been there for some 70 years - and it was showing its age.
Sisters veteran Earl Schroeder thought the pole could use some refurbishing, and he rallied the troops to get it done.
Sisters' VFW post and the American Legion, with coordination by Tom Barrier, cooperated with Leland Bliss of the Sisters School District to get the pole painted with durable white epoxy and to get the finial at the top given a new gold finish.
Calvin Deadder handled the painting chores.
The pole is outfitted with a new lanyard, and Schroeder and Barrier led an informal flag raising at the site on Friday.
Schroeder said he was thrilled with the results of the project.
VFW and the American Legion post flags the length of Cascade Avenue six times through the year.
