News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Keith D. Sampson March 29, 1952 - August 29, 2011

Surrounded by the family he loved, Keith Sampson died of a stroke on August 29 at OHSU in Portland, days after a routine surgery.

Keith was born in Evanston, Illinois on May 29, 1952, the third son to Bonnie and Burgess Sampson. His childhood was spent in River Grove, Ill. Keith loved the outdoors and was passionate about his Chicago Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Italian beef, Italian sausage and anything Chicago. After high school, Keith played football at University of Dubuque, where he received his undergraduate degree. He was married in 1980 to the love of his life, Janie. Keith believed the most significant achievement of his life was his three beloved sons, Todd, Bart and Jeff. Todd preceded him in death in 2007.

Keith started his professional career as a physical therapist in the Chicago area, but later changed directions and found his niche in sales with Willamette Industries. He worked his way up to an executive position with a career spanning 27 years. Keith's career with Willamette Industries took him from Redmond, WA, to Beaverton and finally Fort Mill, SC. After leaving Willamette, he founded and was president of Lakeside Investment Group, eventually relocating the operations to Sisters in the summer of 2004. His most recent venture took him to Puerto Vallarta with Garza Blanca Resort.

Keith's sense of adventure was not limited to his career. He embraced each stage of his life whether it was coaching young athletes, church planting and leadership, and more recently as an advocate for the Sisters Senior Living Center. Most of all, Keith spent his life as a loving husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years and sons, Bart, of Portland; and Jeff, of Santa Maria, CA. He is also survived by siblings Larry, of Duluth, MN; Ryan, of Phoenix, AZ; Ron, of Madison, WI; and Helen, of Phoenix, AZ.

He will be remembered as a man of incredible faith and integrity, and a fiercely loyal friend to those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to celebrate Keith's life will be held Saturday, September 10, at 11 a.m. at 16897 Golden Stone Dr., Sisters, within the Aspen Lakes community. The setting overlooks the 11th fairway at Aspen Lakes Golf Course, a hole Keith played often (and never under par). Parking will be an issue, so carpool if possible. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Keith Sampson account at Bank of the Cascades - Sisters branch.
