News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws tuned up for the season in the Summit Jamboree on Friday, September 2. Teams that attended the event were Summit, Sisters, Burns, La Pine and Redmond.
The format of the jamboree was one game to 25, against four teams. Sisters cruised to an easy 25-8 win over the La Pine Hawks in their first game of the jamboree.
Sisters played a solid defensive game against Crook County, but toward the end of the game the Outlaws had some unforced errors that cost them the game, 20-25.
"We played a very good game against Crook County and dominated on many points," said Coach Diane Bremer. "Sydney Stoneback was absolutely rock-solid in the back row. She dug everything they gave us and turned it into an offensive opportunity."
Bremer also noted that Shelbi Thompson was a very strong defensive player in the game and also throughout the day.
Sisters will play against Crook County at Madras High School on September 13, and are looking forward to a full match with the reigning 4A State Champions.
The Outlaws finished with games against 3A Burns and Redmond. Sisters lost in a tight game to Burns in a final score of 23-25 and then lost 21-25 to Redmond.
"Overall, it was a good day to get out first-contest jitters," said Bremer. "We were playing with our line-up quite a bit and giving players opportunities in different positions. We will be honing in on our starting line-up and getting the machine to work as effectively as possible. This team has a lot of
potential."
Bailey Bremer was kill leader for the day, with nine kills. Bremer was followed by Megan Minke, who finished with five kills and three blocks. Lizzy Carhart added two kills and three blocks for the Outlaws. Newcomer Michaela Meeter came up with three blocks on the day.
Sydney Stoneback led the team with 14 digs, followed by Shebi Thompson, who contributed seven digs, and Bremer, who added five.
Shannon Fouts handled the majority of the setting responsibilities for the Outlaws, but Kristina Sparling and Shelbi Thompson also spent time in the setting role.
Bremer noted a thwarted kill attempt by Fouts when she blocked the overpass against a Redmond middle, and Kristina Sparling's wicked kill on a second ball.
The Lady Outlaws will travel to Stayton to face the Lady Eagles on Thursday, September 8, and then will play in the Cascade Tournament on Saturday, September 10. Sisters will play their first home match of the season on Thursday, September 15, in a three-way match with Summit and Central. Sisters' varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams will play Central at 4 p.m., Summit and Central will play at 5:30 p.m. and Sisters will match up against Summit in the final game of the evening, which is set to begin
at 7 p.m.
