Boys soccer up against tough teams

The boys soccer team played two tough teams to kick off their season. Sisters finished in a 4-4 tie with Crook County on Tuesday, September 6, and two days later lost 7-0 to Stayton.

In Tuesday's match-up with Crook County, the Outlaws got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Tim Hernandez in the 11th minute, with an assist from Evan Rickards.

Crook County tied it up in the 20th minute off a long direct kick that was redirected via a header into the goal. The Cowboys scored eight minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.

Sisters responded with a goal by Sebastian Boehm. Boehm beat three defenders and the goalie to score. At the end of the half the score was tied 2-2.

At the start of the second half, Robert Small put Sisters ahead by redirecting a saved goal off a Jake McAllister shot and scored.

Ten minutes later the Cowboys tied it up again and then scored to take the lead. McAllister wrapped up Sisters' scoring effort with a goal off a Ryan Long pass, and the game ended in a 4-4 tie.

"It was a good first game of the year," said Coach Rob Jensen. "The team showed some offensive strength but we did have some mental errors on the defensive side of the ball."

Two days later the Outlaws lost 7-0 to the Stayton Eagles. Stayton scored three goals in the first half and then added four more in the second to record the shut-out.

Stayton, last year's state champs, returned their entire starting lineup.

The Outlaws got eight shots on goal but weren't able to get them past the returning first-team all-state goalie.

Jensen noted that Drew Corrigan played well at the keeper position and recorded 16 saves in the game.

"Overall, I thought we played better than we did the last game," said Jensen. "They were a good team, and it was a good test for our team."
