News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Jim Boraas knows what it means to suffer from chronic back pain - and to overcome it. The experience sparked a passion for bringing the benefits of strength conditioning to the Sisters community.
"I had back problems since I was about 20," he recalled. "I met a doctor, actually, who told me about this place in Bend - and that's the last time my back's been out."
That place was Core Fitness. When a local investor bought that outfit's equipment and sought a new location in Sisters, Boraas jumped at the opportunity to manage the facility, which is located at 413 W. Hood Ave., near Blazin Saddles.
"I'm doing this for my family's health and my health and I want to make it available to the community," Boraas told The Nugget.
Core Strength Training is based around sophisticated MedX equipment designed by fitness pioneer Arthur Jones. The apparatus are biomechanically designed to work for a full range of body types, providing a controlled, safe means of rehabilitating injuries and building vital strength. There is a selection of equipment specifically designed to target the neck and back. Other equipment assists in creating greater flexibility.
"It's all going to be slow, controlled movements," Boraas explained.
Training sessions are individually tailored and one-on-one, to maximize effectiveness and safety.
Boraas notes that maintaining health and fitness is critical, especially in tough times.
"If you lose your job, your house, your finances, what do you have left? You've got your health," he said. "If you lose you're health, you're really sunk."
Boraas, who will continue to operate his Sisters Carpet Cleaning business, is excited about bringing Core Strength Training to Sisters.
"It worked for me, which is why I'm so sold on this, why I want to keep doing this," he said.
