News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters' varsity volleyball team cruised to sweeps over La Pine and Cottage Grove (CG) last week. The Lady Outlaws staved off La Pine with scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-10 and two days later topped Cottage Grove 25-17, 25-10 and 25-23.
In Tuesday's match against the Hawks, the Outlaws won the match in three quick sets. Freshman Nila Lukens led the offense with seven kills. Megan Minke had five kills on the night and Lizzy Carhart contributed four. Bailey Bremer, Kristina Sparling and Kristina Johns added five kills each. Setter Shannon Fouts dished out 26 assists on the night.
Jenny Houk went 11/13 from the service line with two aces, and Fouts went 19/19 with three aces for a perfect night at the line. Michaela Meeter went 6/7 from the service line with one ace.
The Outlaws rolled over CG at home on Thursday in another three-set sweep. The Lady Lions put up a scrappy effort but were no match for the Outlaws.
"We played well tonight," said Coach Diane Bremer. "We moved the offense around, and our defense did a great job of staying consistent. We were tough at the service line tonight as well."
In game three, Samantha Williamson went 11/12 from the service line with two aces. Shelbi Thompson ripped some hard serves, going 12/13 with one ace. Sydney Stoneback ran the backcourt effortlessly and racked up 20 digs on the night. Kristina Johns recorded eight digs and one kill. Shannon Fouts, Lizzy Carhart, Williamson and Thompson each had four digs, and Savannah Spear added three.
Bailey Bremer led the team with 11 kills, followed by Lizzy Carhart, who finished with 10 kills and six huge blocks.
"Bailey does a good job of powering through the block and had a few kills straight to the floor with no defensive touch," said Bremer. "Lizzy is fun to watch as she is crushing the ball straight to the ground and is really playing tough at the net."
Michaela Meeter came into the match in game two and recorded four kills and a couple of nice blocks for the Outlaws. Chelsea Reifschneider and Kristina Sparling added three kills each, with one huge kill from Sparling that came at match point.
The win over the Lions pushed Sisters to a 4-0 record in league. The Outlaws will start the second round of league on Thursday, October 6, at Sweet Home. The following Tuesday, October 11, Sisters will play at home against Elmira.
