A fine autumn morning greeted about 30 runners and walkers for the annual Key Club Harvest Ramble Saturday, October 29.
The course began at the Village Green Park and traversed a loop on the lower Peterson Ridge Trail. Members of the Sisters Key Club, a student branch of Kiwanis, organized the event.
Mason Calmettes used the race as a tune-up for the upcoming state cross-country meet, touring the 3.3-mile course in 20 minutes, 40 seconds.
Izaak Kanzig placed second (23:07) and a mysterious runner named Rod placed third (23:26).
Anne Perkins (26:56) crossed the line as the first female finisher, followed by May Fan (28:15) and Deirdre Kanzig (32:15).
Don Hildebrand, 80, finished first in the senior category with a time of 33:08.
Gail Little powered her way to a first-place finish in the walking event in a time of 43:06.
A barbecue lunch donated by Ray's Food Place replenished the participants and volunteers afterwards. Proceeds from the race were estimated at $260, which will be used for Key Club activities.
According to the Kiwanis website, Key Club assists Kiwanis in carrying out its mission to serve the children of the world. High-school student members of Key Club perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing and organizing food drives.
The Sisters High School Key Club is advised by teacher Michele Hammer.
