Martial artists do well in tournament

Sixteen martial artists from Outlaw Martial Arts competed in a large Tae Kwon Do tournament hosted by Acrovision Sports Center in Bend. Eighty-five competitors from eight martial arts schools around the state participated in the tournament, held Saturday, October 29.

The tournament consisted of three competitions: poomsae, family poomsae and sparring. Poomsae is a series of defensive and offensive techniques, (movements, blocks, punches, kicks, etc.), performed in a specific pattern and sequence. Competitors are judged on technique, accuracy and attitude while performing alongside another competitor. Family poomsae is two or more family members performing a poomsae. They are judged on technique and synchronicity.

Winning a gold medal in poomsae: Carson Bell, Shawn Kelm, Zack Gulick, Tate Kaczmarek and Ms. Sherri Hermens. Winning silver: Jaxon Barry, Conner Bell, Michael McClellan, Ethan Ferwalt and Tristan Kaczmarek. Taking bronze: Brendan Sickau, Dillon, Shawn McClellan, Taylor Sickau, Hogan Warner and Tanner Kaczmarek.

Winning the silver medal in family poomsae were Tristan, Tanner and Tate Kaczmarek.

In the sparring competition the gold medal winners were: Shawn Kelm, Zack Gulick, Michael McClellan, Tanner Kaczmarek and Tristan Kaczmarek. Winning the silver were: Conner Bell, Jaxon Barry, Shawn McClellan and Dillon. The bronze medal went to: Carson Bell, Faith Gulick, Brendan Sickau, Ethan Ferwalt and Taylor Sickau.
