News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The duo Beam will play at The Barn in Sisters on Friday, November 18.
Isabel and Eli met on the Soul Fire Project (SFP) bus, in San Blas, Mexico, on February 20, 2010.
Eli Carlton-Pearson and Isabel Sokol-Oxman travelled for six months together on the SFP bus, which is a cooperative artistic project that survives off street performances on its circuitous journey from Hillsboro, Oregon to Brazil. They finally returned to Eli's home turf, Marin County, in the fall of 2010 where their duo, Beam, was born. They play their all-original music at various small venues in the Bay Area.
The two members have between them studied classical, jazz, Cambodian, Ghanaian, Bulgarian, North Indian and American folk music, and are steeped in the rock music of the early '90s.
Isabel grew up near Hillsboro. She has played violin and piano since the age of 5, but can also easily handle several other instruments.
Eli hails from Marin County, California. He has played guitar and drums most of his life and is the inventer-builder of the "whatar" - a guitar with a twist.
Their performance at The Barn starts at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) with lots of fresh original tunes, including some new Bulgarian break-downs, and more.
The Barn is located at 68467 Three Creek Rd. Refreshments provided. BOYB. Suggested donation is $15.
