News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls soccer team crushed Central in a 6-0 shutout at home on Thursday, November 5, in a play-in game. Sisters advanced to the first round of the state playoffs and was to host Sutherland on November 8.
Coach Nik Goertzen told The Nugget that the Outlaws had a bit of trouble with their passes in the first 20 minutes of play against Central, but made some adjustments and put themselves in better positions to score.
Sisters scored in the 22nd minute, when Amity Calvin made a great pass from the middle over to Natalie Ambrose on the left side. Ambrose shot the ball to the right of the keeper to give the Outlaws a 1-0 lead.
At the 35-minute mark, Jodie Reoch dished the ball over to Haley Carlson, who shot one up and over the keeper for the goal.
"Haley was at a difficult angle, but she was able to get the shot up and over to inside the far post," said Goertzen.
Three minutes later, the Outlaws scored on a pass from Michelle Young to Ambrose. Ambrose shot the ball at the keeper and the ball bounced down. Ambrose took a second shot, which hit the near post and came right back at her. The third time was the charm and Natalie tapped it into the net with her right foot and put the Outlaws up 3-0.
Sisters held a 3-0 advantage at the half.
At the 47-minute mark in the second half, Amity Calvin scored an unassisted goal from 15 yards out that sailed in hip-height to the right of the keeper.
Two minutes later, Zoe McAllister passed the ball over to Carlson, who banged home a great shot straight into the back of the net.
Sisters scored their final goal in the 56th minute on a pass from Young to Reoch. Jodie corralled the ball inside the 18-yard box and sent it directly up and over the head of the defenders and the keeper between the crossbar and the keeper's hands.
"We stayed focused, played at our level and didn't play down," said Goertzen.
