A woman's report that she had been carjacked in Sisters turned out to be a false claim.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office sent out a media alert early Saturday morning detailing a woman's report that her car had been stolen by force while she was parked in Sisters on Friday night. According to the media release, "The female victim reported that she was taking a break from driving and was parked just off of Highway 20 in Sisters near the City Hall and the Sisters School Administration Building.
"The victim said she was sitting in her vehicle when an unknown male jerked open the driver's door and pulled her out of the vehicle by her hair and threw her down on to the pavement, causing minor injury. The unidentified male then got into the car, possibly with another person as a passenger, and drove away."
On Saturday, deputies found the vehicle crashed into a tree near Jefferson and Oak Streets in Sisters.
The sheriff's office reports that, "After investigating the scene and re-interviewing the 'victim,' April Sutherby, 24, from Veneta, she admitted to being the driver of her vehicle and crashing into a tree. Sutherby apparently fabricated this story about the car jacking for some unknown reason."
Sutherby was cited for initiating a false report.
