Tom Landis, of Camp Sherman, attained another world record earlier this month by swimming on a world-record relay team at a meet in Portland. The race was a mixed 4x200 meter freestyle relay in the 280-319 age group. To qualify for this age group, the ages of the swimmers must add up to at least 280 years (an average age of 70). Besides Tom (69), the contestants were Willard Lamb (89), Barbara Frid (68) and Karen Andrus-Hughes (54).
Their time of 11:43.44 broke the listed world record by over 36 seconds. A mixed relay consists of two men and two women. Each participant swam 200 meters.
