Himalayan Holiday offers unique gifts that give back

Folks in the Sisters Country can find truly unique gifts while supporting projects to aid people in Nepal through Ten Friends' Himalayan Holiday.

The event is set for Friday, December 2, at Sisters Elementary School. Shoppers can explore hundreds of gift items from Nepal from 4 to 6 p.m. From 6 to 8:30 p.m. there will be a dinner featuring Nepali food, accompanied by live music.

Admission for the shopping bazaar is free; there is a $10 suggested donation for dinner (kids 12 and under eat free).

Proceeds from the event go to Ten Friends Himalayan Education Center. There will be a video update in recent projects in Nepal.

Ten Friends began when Sisters teachers Mark Lamont and Rand Runco and eight of their friends spent a summer in Nepal. Every summer they travel to Nepal, often taking volunteer students or friends, to work on projects ranging from helping to provide clean water to enhancing educational opportunities for Nepali youth.
