News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Letters to the Editor 11/30/2011

To the Editor:

I would like to commend Bonnie Baker and her volunteers at CRAFT (Cat Rescue, Adoption, & Foster Team) for their dedication and devotion to the many cats and kittens they care for.

Like many nonprofits, CRAFT needs our financial help to keep doing adoption work saving the lives of hundreds of cats each year. I would like to believe - and have it proven to me - that I live in a community who, when they know the truth, will step up and be responsible to our population of animal companions and working pets.

CRAFT is really our area's greatest resource for cats. To help keep CRAFT going, I need to find 49 other community members willing to simply give $20 each month. If I can find a way to do this while my husband is unemployed, I challenge everyone reading this article to find a way to join us in our mission of keeping this much needed feline sanctuary going.

Please donate at http://www.craftcats.org.

To the Editor:

I just got another care package from The Military Parents of Sisters and wanted someone to know how much their support means to me and crew partners.

There is always an assortment of goods in the packages, but one thing you can always count on is the issue of The Nugget at the bottom of the box. It is always nice to catch up on how things are going.

My crew partners are always impressed at how beautiful the Sisters area is, and I guess it is something you don't really appreciate until you have traveled away from that region.

If you could please extend this thank-you to them I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for keeping the hometown paper going.

To the Editor:

We currently live in Alaska but will be moving to Sisters next year, where we already own a house.

There has been a increase in the numbers of roundabouts being put in here in Anchorage, which I feel has greatly added to the flow of traffic and decrease in accidents.

Having grown up with roundabouts in Massachusetts, I would have to say the problem I have seen in Alaska is the size of the roundabouts. They're too small. Back east the larger size allows for a greater ease of traffic flow. And from what I've been reading, in Sisters the concern seems to be for freight traveling through town. I know space is limited, but I would certainly opt for larger roundabouts. I am ecstatic that they are being considered for Sisters.
