Boys basketball gears up for season

The boys basketball team crushed the Cowboys of Crook County in their season opener on Saturday, December 3.

The Outlaws' shots fell fast and furious in the first quarter, and at the close of the period the Outlaws held a commanding 20-5 lead. Sisters continued to dominate play and maintain momentum and surged to a 36-13 advantage at the half.

Sisters held the Cowboys to just three points in the third quarter and went on to easily win the contest in a final score of 65-25.

Top scorers for the Outlaws were John Erickson and Eli Harrison. Erickson led the team with 22 points, including five threes, and Harrison had 18 points, including four threes. Sebastian Boehm pitched in for seven points.

"John, Eli and Sebastian really shot the ball well and our execution was pretty good for our first game," said Coach Rand Runco. "We shot more threes than I wanted, but that is what they gave us and we hit them."

The trio of Brian Boswell, Bryce Alderman and Ryan Gridley provided a towering defensive presence in the paint for the Outlaws, and they also dominated play on the boards.

Runco noted that Jalen Miller, Chase Goff, Cole Moore, Tim Hernandez and Zach Cummins applied defensive pressure and executed well.

"It was a good first game and we really came out ready," said Runco. "I was really pleased with our focus and effort. It was a good team win."

The Outlaws were to face two tough teams on the road this week: the Summit Storm on Tuesday, December 6 in a 7:15 p.m. game, and the Cascade Cougars two days later with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
