News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
William Cyrus, a senior at Sisters High School, is Sisters Boy Scout Troop 139's newest Eagle Scout.
Cyrus met all the requirements necessary to become an Eagle Scout, including developing and leading a service project. For his service project, Cyrus and his team, working with John Rahm and Gene Trahern of the Sisters Trails Alliance, built and installed 11 sign posts on the Peterson Ridge Trail System. "We chamfered and routed the posts and glued on the placards," said Cyrus. Trahern is the Troop 139 Scoutmaster.
In addition to installing the sign posts, Cyrus coordinated with Swiss Mountain Log Homes, who donated a picnic table, and placed it at the trail overlook.
According to the Boy Scouts of America website, as of January 2011, there were 2,739,692 youths in scouting. 56,176 Boy Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout last year.
William's Eagle Court of Honor will be on February 5 at 4 p.m. in the loft at the Aspen Lakes Clubhouse.
