Calendar celebrates Camp Sherman dogs

Camp Sherman is an idyllic place for just about anything, and for many residents dog ownership rates near the top. With ample space to run, play and lounge, Camp Sherman dogs live a sweet life.

The Black Butte School Foundation celebrates that with a 2012 calendar, featuring photos of several canine residents. Water-loving dogs take center stage, not surprising with the Metolius River a stone's throw away. Sisters photographer Craig May worked with the dogs and owners setting up shots portraying the sometimes active, sometimes indolent lifestyles of the dogs.

The calendar is the brainchild of Marti Dale and Pam Haines, who came up with the idea after watching May take photos of people and their pets at a Camp Sherman Christmas bazaar. They plan to make it an annual project, since there is no shortage of subjects in the area.

The BBS Foundation was established as a non-profit in 1999. It's purpose is to raise funds for scholarships that assist Black Butte School graduates seeking to pursue education beyond high school. The scholarships are awarded in June, in memory of Frank Dale.

"The calendar has helped people in the community be aware of (the BBS Foundation)," said Marti Dale, Frank Dale's mother.

The calendar sells for $10 and may be purchased at Sisters Feed & Supply, Sisters Mercantile, The Pony Express, Groomingdales, Sisters Dental and the Camp Sherman Store. All proceeds go into the scholarship fund.
