News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Brain Teasers 2 exhibit from the Oregon Museum of Science and Technology (OMSI) arrived at Sisters High School on Tuesday where it will be on display until May.
This exhibit is brought to the community through the collaborative efforts of The Science Club, Sisters Park & Recreation District and the Sisters School District. After a period of training for high school student leaders and community volunteers to become Brain Teaser docents, the exhibit will open for Sisters school classes on January 30, to the Sisters community on Saturday, February 4, and to scheduled visits from other school districts in March.
According to Sisters Science Club president Bob Collins, "The primary goal is to give all Sisters school children and their families the opportunity to experience the fun and challenge of these puzzles. Many will want to come more than once. There is no charge for residents and students of Sisters."
The Brain Teasers 2 exhibit has been on a national tour from OMSI for several years and has proven to be immensely popular. There will be 20 puzzles at five tables in a "Brain Teaser" room just off the high school's main atrium. These puzzles will challenge two- and three-dimensional spatial skills, mathematical logic, and test/retest rational strategies.
"These are puzzles for all ages that will get you to think outside the box, draw diagrams, work backwards and work as teams," Collins stated. "The BT (Brain Teaser) docents will be available to help guide participants with a hint or two here and there, but they will want you to have the final pleasure of 'Aha.
I did it!'
"The educational adventure behind the exhibit is important for us all. The emotional attitudes and cognitive skills developed in solving puzzles will be useful in solving problems as they occur in life."
