News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Ethel June Jensen Newton January 18, 1928 - January 14, 2012

June was born to Ethel and Charles N. Jensen in Yakima, Washington. She grew up with older sisters, Audrey and Orpha, in Bickleton, Washington, often riding her beloved horse from home to the small school in town. She loved her youth on the ranch, preferring the wheat fields with her dad to time in the kitchen.

She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1945 and attended Oregon State University, where she met Robert P. Newton. They were married August 24, 1947 in a garden wedding. They raised seven children: Linda (James) Chaney, Kathy Newton, Peggy Newton, Bill Newton, Mike (Bev) Newton, Jeff (Kristen) Newton, and Heidi (Robert) Miller.

Mom had a way of making each of us "kids" feel special and loved. She and Dad were blessed with 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mom played piano in church for years, enjoyed playing her accordion and singing. Her kids have fond memories of Mom and Dad singing harmony during our many road trips to visit grandparents, go camping, or visit the coast.

Mom enjoyed traveling, homemaking, and making beautiful quilts for family. She loved all kinds of games, including bridge and pinochle.

Mom and Dad built their dream home in Camp Sherman, near Sisters, and retired there in 1983. The family enjoyed many happy reunions in Camp Sherman or the Oregon Coast.

She and Dad also enjoyed many years of touring around the country in their motorhome.

She entered into her eternal home in Heaven just a few hours before her 84th birthday. Her family was honored to spend very sweet moments with her in the days prior to her leaving us.

A celebration of our precious mom's life will be held in Bickleton sometime this spring.
