Library art exhibit shines

The 2012 Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) Art Exhibit is a Sisters Country success; the evidence for that statement can be seen in the many happy library patrons who have been seen leaving the library, giving the exhibit a hearty thumbs-up.

It's difficult, if not impossible, to single out any one piece or artist as the grand winner; about the time someone begins to feel this or that piece is the "winner of the show," someone interrupts and says, "But have you seen the jewelry in the foyer cabinets?" Then someone will cut in with, "Oh, but those beautiful paintings and photos hanging in the community and computer rooms and hallways are really grand!" "What about that 'Rock-A-Dile'?" someone else asks, with a big grin. "Did you notice the metal work? I can almost see it reaching out to bite my hand with those big purple teeth..." And on and on it goes.

Mary Jo Weiss' jewelry, which includes designs by Jan Reese, has been shown in every FOSL Art Exhibit since the library opened in 2006. The same with the beautiful wooden boxes designed and fabricated by Laurence Dyer - only this year, his grandson Andrew joined him with his beautiful creations. Throughout the cabinets are more jewelry from several other local artists, exquisite pottery, beautiful glass vases and wonderful "found object" art pieces.

All in all, there are 137 pieces of art, either hanging or standing throughout the Sisters Library, all of which are the products of 49 artists from throughout Sisters Country.

Zeta Seiple, chair of the FOSL Art Committee, after reflecting on the quality of the exhibit said, "There is so much wonderful art created in the Sisters Country, and the Friends of the Sisters Library are very grateful to have so many talented artists contributing to our annual art exhibit."
