The Outlaws boys basketball team beat Elmira 60-46 at home on Tuesday, January 24, and three days later clipped the Hawks of La Pine 48-35 to wrap up the first half of league play undefeated.
Sisters played another outstanding defensive game against Elmira on Tuesday and jumped out early with a 15-9 lead. The Outlaws played a bit sloppy in the second quarter and only outscored the Falcons by one point. At the half Sisters held a 24-17 lead.
The Outlaws put up a great third quarter and knocked in 22 points. Sisters held on with a comfortable lead and recorded the win.
John Erickson led the team in scoring with 23 points, and Eli Harrison contributed 18. Sebastian Boehm, Chase Goff and Jalen Miller combined for 15 points.
Bryan Boswell and Bryce Alderman did a great job defending at the post.
Coach Rand Runco said, "Elmira was a tough opponent. They're very scrappy and they play really hard. Any time we let up they were clawing back. They have a very good point guard who's a shooter, and they have a really quality post. We're going to need to capitalize on every possession to beat this team at home."
Three days later the Outlaws beat La Pine on the road. The Hawks pulled the ball out and went to a stall to start the contest. They stretched the Outlaws away from the basket and took a lot of time to shoot the ball.
Runco was very proud of his team for their defensive patience.
"We didn't freak out, and slowly and steadily built a lead," said Rucno.
Sisters outscored the Hawks 11-5 in the first quarter. John Erickson hit some big buckets which gave the Outlaws an early lead. Jalen Miller, Sebastian Boehm, Tim Hernandez, Cole Moore and Bryce Alderman locked down La Pine and protected the Outlaws' lead. At the half Sisters was on top 24-11.
Eli Harrison and Brian Boswell were key scorers for the Outlaws in the second half. Boswell and Alderman did a great job defending La Pine's post, Austin Pierce, and a total team effort resulted in a win.
The Outlaws will play at home against Junction City on Friday, February 3. The game is set to begin at 7:15 p.m. Friday, February 10, Sisters will travel to Cottage Grove.
