Artist to speak at Black Butte Ranch Art Guild

Renowned artist and architect Myra Burg, who has been designing and producing site-specific works of art since 1976, will speak about her art to the Black Butte Ranch Art Guild on Monday, February 20, at 10 a.m., at the Black Butte Ranch Community Center.

The artist talk is free to attend, and the public is invited.

Burg took her love of music and the oboe and turned it into a work of art, wrapping the instrument in fiber of varying sheen and texture.

"Wanting a change from practicing architecture, and realizing my didgeridoo at home was more an art piece than musical instrument, I wrapped a companion piece and named it 'The Quiet Oboe,'" Burg said. "I fell in love with the warmth of wrapped fiber on the cylindrical form."

Burg's works range in size from tabletop to airplane hangar for freestanding, wall-mounted or aerial constructions. Using soft, luxurious fiber in an array of colors, she introduces a crispness to the metals for elegant solutions in design and function.

"Each tube is coated with adhesive, and individually wrapped, top to bottom," said Burg.

Although Burg has been a licensed, practicing architect since 1984, she has shifted her emphasis to The Quiet Oboes.

Over the years, Burg has placed several hundred installations for private collections and public spaces all over the globe. Burg's work has been on display in such diverse places as Apple Computer, The Mayo Clinic, Scope Industries, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and in the private collection of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Burg's work can also be found on display with oil painter Liz Cummings. For more information on the art of Myra Burg and her collaboration with Liz Cummings, visit http://www.myraburg.com.
