News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters cowgirl Shelby Ross will be officially crowned, 2012 Miss Rodeo Oregon on March 3 at FivePine Conference Center.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for an evening of dining, entertainment, and fundraising. Family friend and Columbia Sportswear matriarch Gert Boyle will crown Ross. Rodeo queens and courts from around the Northwest will attend the kick-off of Ross' year of travel. In addition to the official crowning, silent and live auctions will help raise funds for travel expenses, as well as assisting with the costs involved when Ross competes next December at the Miss Rodeo America Pageant, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Live music will be performed by The Anvil Blasters.
Advance tickets are $25, and tickets at the door on March 3 will be $30.
Shelby Ross, a 2009 graduate of Sisters High School, is the 20-year-old daughter of Dale and Candia Ross and Melinda and Brian Witt. She was a dedicated 4-H member, showing both Western and English disciplines. Ross participated on the Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET), serving as co-captain for two years. Ross was also an active member of the Sisters High School Golf Team, earning the state 2007 and 2008 championships.
Since she was a little girl, Shelby has dreamed of being a rodeo queen. As the 2010 Sisters Rodeo Queen, she first achieved her dream. That same year, she enrolled in Oregon State University, majoring in elementary education with plans to become a second-grade teacher. Ross' dream of becoming a rodeo queen reached an even greater height when she was named 2012 Miss Rodeo Oregon during the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant at the Canby Rodeo in August, 2011.
Shelby was honored to be crowned in the Canby Arena by then 2011 Miss Rodeo Oregon, and now 2012 Miss Rodeo America, Mackenzie Carr of Vernonia, Oregon. She thanks Mackenzie for being a great role model for all Oregon rodeo titleholders.
As Miss Rodeo Oregon 2012, Shelby will travel over 30,000 miles throughout Oregon and the United States promoting the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). Her dreams would not have become a reality without the love and commitment of her family, friends and supporters. In her role representing Oregon rodeo, Ross promises, "I will make you proud!"
