Jen's Garden dinner benefits music education

Jennifer & TR McCrystal have enjoyed watching their daughters and fellow students at Bald Eagle Music Education Station (BEMES) experience the joy of learning to play musical instruments. When Jennifer heard that the music studio was struggling, she wanted to figure out a way to help.

"The economy is tough and there are people who would love to have their children in music classes but they are unable to afford it," said Jennifer. "The studio is an enormous asset to our little town that values art and music so much."

Jennifer settled on the idea of hosting a dinner benefit at their fine dining restaurant, Jen's Garden. The evening begins at 6 p.m. on February 20, with a tour of the music studio, a chat with Rebecca French and students. Other students will be performing music they are studying. Guests will return to Jen's Garden for dinner with all proceeds going to BEMES and the scholarship program. The cost is $100 per guest. Jennifer encourages anyone who can't attend to make a donation to BEMES. To make a reservation or to donate call Jennifer at 541-549-4979.

Rebecca French founded BEMES in January of 2011. She has more than 20 years of experience in music instruction for students of all ages. Currently BEMES has 21 active students.

"The money will go to scholarships for children who have the talent and desire but can't afford classes," said French.
