News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Stormy, wet conditions did not deter 29 hardy souls who strapped on their snowshoes to compete in the second annual Hoodoo Snowshoe Shuffle held Friday evening on Hoodoo's Nordic trails.
Ryan Ness of Bend negotiated the course, which began at twilight, in 17:52, while his wife, Laurie, placed fourth overall in 25:55, giving the couple a sweep of the top men's and women's spots.
McKibben Womack produced a strong showing among locals, finishing as the runner-up in the race in 21:32.
Jim Rantala, competing in the 50-59 division, finished an impressive third with a time of 24:54, while Beverly McDonald of Camp Sherman, competing in the 70+ division, finished right in the middle of the pack in 15th place with a time of 42:10.
"The event is designed to be low-key and we met that goal," said Josh Nordell, one of the event's organizers through Sisters Multi-Sport. "What a great way to start a three-day weekend."
Some of the proceeds generated from entry fees to the race will be added to the fundraising efforts for the Sisters Family Access Network (FAN) currently taking place through the Mr. SHS program.
The next event scheduled by Sisters Multi-Sport is the second annual St. Patty's Day Run and Walk, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 16 at Sisters Athletic Club. This event will feature both 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer distances. Following the races, Three Creeks Brewing Co. will offer beer tasting to adult participants. Organizers expect a record turnout for this popular race, which offers a top prize for the best St. Patrick's Day outfit worn during the
event.
