News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws' season came to an end with a tough 52-35 loss to the Philomath Warriors on February 24.
Sisters had a difficult first half offensively and just weren't able to hit their shots. Philomath took an early lead and at the close of the first quarter were on top 15-5. The Lady Outlaws tried their best to catch Philomath but just couldn't get the job done. The Warriors made three quick baskets just before the buzzer sounded, and at the half Sisters was down by 17 with the score at 29-12.
Coach Julianne Horner told The Nugget that she believed that if her team would come out and execute on offense in the third quarter they would cut the Warriors' lead in half. However, the Outlaws weren't able to execute their offense until the fourth quarter.
In the final period, Lauryn Chauncey and Carissa Kernutt stepped up their leaderships roles and took control. They played hard, dove on loose balls and crashed the boards. Unfortunately it wasn't enough, and the Lady Outlaws lost the contest by 17.
Elise Herron did a great job defending Tegan Grunwald, one of Philomath's big scorers, and held her to a season-low nine points.
Taylor Nieri and Carissa Kernutt both scored 10 points for the Outlaws. Chauncey recorded six points and Herron and Savannah Spear each pitched in for three.
"We looked like the team I know in the fourth, but we just couldn't unbury the first three quarters," Horner said. "I was proud of the effort we made and incredibly proud of how we finished."
