News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The 2012 Sisters Rodeo poster is now available. The brilliantly colorful painting is the second rodeo art painted by Dan Rickards of Clearwater Gallery.
The classic rodeo event of a saddle bronc ride demonstrates the athletic form of both horse and rider with fine detail of gear in this oldest of rodeo competitions.
With a background that depicts many facets of landscapes in Central Oregon, the painting will be a nice addition for the collectors of rodeo posters. Red, orange and yellow fall foliage surrounding grass-edged ponds creates a striking invitation for visitors to experience more of what Sisters has to offer. Across the green of higher-elevation forests, the Three Sisters are displayed in fluid colors of purple and blue, blended in the snow-covered mountains.
Rickards is a nationally renowned artist who has been commissioned by Ducks Unlimited, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Mule Deer Foundation and many private collectors. His 2012 schedule is nearly filled with commission work as his realism in landscapes and wildlife grows in popularity for the serious art collector. In 2009, he painted the poster for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and in 2010 the Sisters Rodeo poster.
Rickards and his wife, Julia, own Clearwater Gallery and Frame Shop in Sisters.
The poster is available at the Sisters Rodeo ticket office, Clearwater Gallery and Leavitt's. Clearwater Gallery will hold an open house May 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. for this poster release. The artist will sign posters that evening.
Sisters Rodeo has five performances on June 6 and June 8-10.
