Volleyball club completes season

More than 50 Sisters-area girls completed the first year of the Outlaw Volleyball Club at the season finale tournament in Prineville on Sunday. The local travel-ball volleyball program is designed to be more affordable, with less time on the road.

"We are excited to grow this club and become a force to be reckoned with," said parent volunteer manager, Chris Houck. "We practice in Sisters and play all our matches in Prineville, Bend, Sisters and maybe Redmond. It's lots of fun."

All play in the new league is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletics Union. Sisters joins multiple teams in Prineville, Madras, Bend, Redmond and Prairie City.

Houck said the program drew a committed and talented team of area volleyball coaches headed by Olympian Miki McFadden.

"All our teams did well in the six tournaments this year, even winning a few," she said.

The club had talent enough for three teams; an underage 10-12 team (ages 8 to 11), a U14 (ages 11-13), and a U16 (ages 13-15). The program has a U18 division, though Sisters did not field a team in that age group.

Houck, the coaches, and players are looking to grow the program next year. Player evaluations take place in November. The first tournament is in late January, with the season wrapping up by spring break. For more information email [email protected]
