News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters Folk Festival's 11th annual My Own Two Hands (MOTH) art auction will feature the talents of Portland band 3 Leg Torso.
3 Leg Torso formed in 1996 as a violin, cello and accordion trio with the mission of creating original modern chamber music for their unique instrumentation. Over the following years the band expanded both its musical mission and its size, becoming a quintet that now performs an eclectic synthesis of chamber music, tango, klezmer, Latin, and world music.
The band is performing as part of the Saturday night art auction, which has long been held at the Ponderosa Forge & Ironworks building.
"The melding of world-class art, music, food, and libations all within the environment of an industrial forge makes for a wonderful evening, more unique than any art auction I've ever been to or heard of," said Assistant Festival Director Travis Ehrenstrom.
The auction itself is part of a weekend geared toward celebration and recognition of the arts. On Friday, the weekend kicks off with a parade of handmade art centered on this year's theme, "Lookin' Up." After the parade, local businesses host the donated art in an art stroll, with local musicians playing throughout the downtown corridor.
At the conclusion of the stroll, the community is invited to gather at FivePine Conference Center, where the students of the Sisters Americana Project will perform their original music. Tickets are available to the Friday night Performing Arts Evening at the door for $5, or $10 if you wish to eat. Three Creeks Brewing Co. will provide a pasta bar and beer, with wine from Cork Cellars.
All proceeds from the My Own Two Hands weekend directly benefit the Sisters Americana Project. The Sisters Americana Project is a community education and outreach program of the Sisters Folk Festival.
Limited tickets are available for the Saturday auction for $55, from the SFF office at 541-549-4979. For any questions regarding the MOTH weekend, email [email protected]
