Optometrist takes on Sisters office

Central Oregon Eyecare has taken over the offices of Family Optometry in Sisters. Dr. Kristi Rhodes, who founded the practice there, will remain on staff for a period of time before moving to Arizona.

Dr. Rhodes wanted to leave the practice in good hands and found them in the venerable Central Oregon Eye Care, which has been serving the region since 1943. They have offices in Redmond, Bend, Madras and Prineville.

Dr. Todd M. Sheldon will lead the practice at the Sisters office. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, he graduated from Brigham Young University, and attended the University of Houston College of Optometry on a U.S. Navy scholarship. Dr. Sheldon graduated as class valedictorian in 1997. He then served as Staff Optometric Physician at the Beaufort Naval Hospital in South Carolina. His duties included directing the contact lens and laser vision correction programs for fighter jet pilots.

Dr. Kilah Atkinson and Dr. Amanda Balsalobre will be part of the expanding staff in Sisters. Dr. Zach Oswald will come on board in the summer.

There will also be an expansion of services, and while product lines will remain largely the same, there will be some additions there as well, Dr. Sheldon reported.

"We'll be able to handle most diseases and eye traumas here," Dr. Sheldon noted.

Central Oregon Eye Care also offers an experienced cadre of Lasik surgeons. Surgeries will be performed in the clinic's other offices.

Dr. Sheldon and his wife, Penny, have four children. They enjoy hiking, hunting, photography, and travel. The move to Sisters is an exciting prospect for the family, one that has long been under consideration.

"My wife and I have toyed with the idea of coming over here and putting our kids in school in Sisters," he said.
