Lacrosse crushes opponents

The boys lacrosse team tallied three blowout wins last week.

Sisters traveled to Redmond on Tuesday, April 17, and walked away with a 13-0 shutout. Three days later the Outlaws recorded a 16-3 victory over Mt. View at home, and on Saturday took down West Salem 15-1 at home.

On Tuesday, Sisters matched up against a young but determined Redmond team that played hard for all four quarters but just did not have the experience to compete against the Outlaws. Beau Fitzke scored three goals and dished out three assists in the contest. Drew Corrigan recorded three goals and one assist, and William Saunders logged two goals and one assist. Wyatt Gladden scored two goals and Cris Smoot, Jens Staldi and Isaiah Glatz each added a goal.

The Outlaws played under the lights at Reed Stadium and took on local rival Mt. View on Friday. At the close of the first quarter the score was tied 2-2.

Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that his guys were tight the first quarter but settled down and the rest of the game belonged to the Outlaws. At the half Sisters was up 10-2. Sisters scored six more goals in the second half to win by 13.

Rexford stated that the Outlaws' performance against West Salem on Saturday was the best he's seen from them.

"From the start until the end the boys were moving their feet, pushing the pace of the offense and were tenacious on defense. With scores like we've had these last three games, there is no single play or one individual who made it happen. It is a collective effort.

"I've been coaching a long time, and this team has built a special season that will last a long time too," added Rexford. "We have a lot of tremendous seniors on the squad, but we also have a share of sophomores and juniors as well. The boys are learning what it takes to put out your best each day, and that what may seem easy on the field right now is because of all the hard work they have put in at practice."

Fitzke and Saunders each had four goals, followed by Smoot who recorded three. Glatz scored two goals and Jared Schneider and Trevor Barry added one goal each. Scott Nelson led the team with four assists.

The Outlaws improved their record to 10-3 and will face a strong Thurston team at home on Saturday, April 28. The game is set for 1 p.m.
