Lady Outlaws outrun the competition

The Sisters girls made easy work of the competition at Junction City last week, racking up 113 points to run away from Junction City (58), La Pine (46) and Alsea (23).

Like the boys team, the girls picked up more points than in previous meets in the throwing events (see related story, page 25). Katelyn Meeter popped a career best of 87 feet 11 inches in her first series of throws for the 2012 season, while Cierra Mann improved on her best throw in the discus (93 feet 6 inches) to place fourth.

"We made it clear to the girls that we could not continue to win meets without scoring any points in the throwing events, and girl after girl had season-best performances Thursday," said Kanzig

As it has all season, the girls' team produced many points in the running and jumping events.

The 400-meter relay team of Sara Small, Bailey Bremer, Molly Boyle and Chelsea Reifschneider edged Junction City by three-tenths of a second to win in 52.65.

In the 1,500-meters, Hannah Bolton of Junction City got away from the Outlaws girls in the final lap to win, but Aria Blumm (5:28), Katelyn Meeter (5:40), and Shelby Duncan (5:59) took the next three spots.

Bailey Bremer (28.09) and Molly Boyle (28.27) went 1-2 in the 200-meters and Boyle also picked up second places in the 100-meters (13.98) and the long jump (14 feet 10.5 inches).

Bremer also won the high jump, clearing 4 feet 9 inches, while Alisha Haken (29 feet 8 inches), Lauryn Chauncey (28 feet 10 inches), and Kirsten Sanders (28 feet) placed second, third, and fourth in the triple jump.

Chelsea Reifschneider and Zoe Falk each claimed two individual wins on the day. Falk won the 800-meters 2:22.34) and the long jump (16 feet 2 inches), while Reifschneider dominated both hurdles races, taking the 100s in 17.25 and the 300s in 49.69.

Reifschneider, Falk, Meeter and Lotte Hansen finished the meet with a clear victory in the 1,600-meter relay.

Frances Payne tested her speed in the 400, where she finished second in 66.8 seconds, and concluded her day with a victory in the 3,000-meters, where she posted her best time of the year (11:38).

"Frances is ready for a breakthrough in her 3,000 time, so we are excited for the weeks ahead, which will give her and her teammates more challenges than they have faced recently," said Kanzig.

The Outlaws face La Pine again April 25 for a Sky-Em League meet with Elmira and Sweet Home, along with athletes from Gilchrist and Mountain View.

On Saturday, April 28, a contingent of boys and girls will compete in the Meet of Champions at Willamette University, which features top athletes from 4A, 3A, 2A, and 1A schools.
