Swimmers earn academic honors

Sisters High School varsity swimmers were recently honored by the OSAA for their academic achievements during the 2011-12 swim season.

Every year, Dairy Farmers of Oregon award the top 10 teams in each sport and classification pins to recognize outstanding accomplishments in the classroom.

The boys swim team, with Tyler Baldessari, Ian Baldessari, Tyler Berg, Shawn Horton, Brennan Miller, Jake Miller, Canyon O'Neal and Davidson Small earned first-place honors with a combined GPA of 3.75. Central, Philomath and Riverdale tied for second (3.66), followed by Corbett (3.61), Astoria (3.60), Cascade Christian (3.54), Newport (3.47), Cottage Grove (3.46) and Henley (3.46).

On the girls' side, Marcy Calavan, Emily Christen, Codie Lagao, Geneieve MacKenzie, Chloe Stein, Katie Stewart, Liz Stewart, Cierra Tigard, Sam Williamson and Michelle Young finished sixth in the most recent publication (GPA 3.72).

Central was first with 3.82, followed by Klamath Union and Seaside (3.78), and Henley and Phoenix (3.74) ahead of the Outlaws girls.
