Free vision care coming to Sisters May 19

For some members of the community, access to medical care appears beyond their reach.

The Casey Eye Institute Outreach Van is working to bring eye care into focus by hosting mobile screenings out in the community.

Free vision screening will be offered for low-income with no vision insurance clients on May 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sisters Park & Recreation District Coffield Center (at the west end of the Sisters High School parking lot).

Mandatory pre-registration is required by calling the FAN office at 541-549-0155. The clinic is sponsored by Sisters Science Club, The Roundhouse Foundation, SPRD and FAN. It is part of a two-day event that will include educational activities with the Sisters Science Club on Friday, May 18.

In the past year, the Casey Outreach Van has provided service to over 1,000 community members with no other access to eye care. This has given them the opportunity to identify common preventable and treatable conditions related to refractive error, diabetes, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Participants are examined at no cost, and community partners assist with follow-up for individuals in need of assistance in purchasing glasses or access to continued medical support.

An all-volunteer staff of eye doctors, technicians, interpreters and assistants gathers each weekend to pro-vide this service.
