House on Metolius opens for business

House on Metolius in Camp Sherman has served as a private estate and retreat for more than 100 years. Now it is open to the public for corporate retreats, destination weddings and family adventures.

The main lodge and six individual cabins can accommodate up to 30 overnight guests with additional indoor and outdoor space for meetings, special events or weddings of up to 125 people.

Loy Helmly, formerly of Black Butte Ranch, has joined House on Metolius as general manager.

Renovation on the main lodge was completed in 2012, and additional upgrades have been made to the other six cabins and meeting spaces around the property. The dining space and kitchen have been reconfigured and the onsite staff provides breakfast, lunch and dinner from locally sourced ingredients. The Gorge Room, in the main lodge, is a spacious and comfortable place to meet, relax in front of the fire, read a book or enjoy conversation.

"House on Metolius has always been known for its pristine natural beauty and prime location on the Metolius River. I'm honored to open this fourth-generation private estate to the public and lead the property to a new phase as a resort," said Helmly. "I look forward to welcoming guests to one of the most unique locations in the Northwest."
