News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Outlaws baseball is on a roll

The Outlaws continued to steamroll over league foes this past week to push their record to 10-0. Sisters crushed Cottage Grove 11-0 in five innings on Friday, April 27 and three days earlier beat La Pine 10-3 at home. On Monday, the Outlaws defeated Junction City 16-3, on their home field.

Sisters shut out the Lions in five quick innings on Friday. The Outlaws got their first run of the ballgame in the second inning. Isaiah Glatz hit a ground ball between shortstop and third for a base hit to score Bryce Alderman.

In the fourth, Sisters tallied six runs and took a 7-0 lead. Joey Morgan's base-clearing double to the center field fence and a two-run homer from Sam Calarco 310 yards over right center field accounted for five of the six runs.

The Outlaws racked up four more runs in the fifth to wrap up their scoring effort. Nicky Blumm and Justin Harrer both had base hits in the inning.

Jarden Weems went the distance on the mound for Sisters. Weems recorded six strike-outs and one walk.

Sisters had nine hits on one error and the Tigers had two hits on two errors.

The Outlaws got 11 hits in their win against La Pine on Tuesday. Shane Groth pitched through five innings for the win.

The first inning of play was highlighted by an RBI single from Weems and a two-RBI single from Joey Morgan. At the close of the first inning the Outlaws were on top 4-0.

After four innings, La Pine was on the scoreboard but the Outlaws still held the lead at 6-3. In the top of the fifth Sisters tacked on three more runs. Weems had a base hit up the middle and Morgan had an RBI double that sailed up and over the right fielder's head.

Sisters got their last run in the sixth and went on to record the win.

Nicky Blumm was 2/2 with an RBI, Weems was 1/2 with two RBI and Morgan went a perfect 4/4 with four RBI.

Joey Morgan was the winning pitcher in Sisters' game against Junction City on Monday. The Outlaws were on fire at the plate and walked away with a decisive 16-3 win.

Aaron Selig went a flawless 2/2 with three RBI to lead the Outlaws. Blumm went 2/4 with an RBI, Sam Calarco went 2/5 with an RBI and Justin Harrer went 2/6 with two RBI.

As the Outlaws head down the stretch to close out league play, Coach Steve Hodges would like to see his team get on the scoreboard earlier in the game.

"It seems like we haven't been getting runs on the scoreboard until the third or fourth inning, and I'd like to see the guys get after it a little more and score earlier in the games. But, I like the pace of our improvement since we got back from Arizona," said Hodges. "We're not walking batters and we are not making errors. With that kind of defense, combined with good pitching and good offense, we're going to win games."

The Outlaws will host a game against Sweet Home on Friday, May 4, and the following Monday, May 7, will travel to Burns for a non-league contest. A day later the Outlaws will play at La Pine.
