News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters was sprinkled with pixie dust this weekend as a student-led production of Peter Pan entertained both children and adults at the Sisters High School Auditorium. Directed by senior Katie Dumolt, the classic story of eternal youth, imagination and magic was well received by the community in all its performances.
"There's been a lot of enthusiasm about it," said volunteer Robin Legg, the mother of McKenzie, a pirate in the play. "The matinees have been a little light but the evening shows were pretty full, especially with little kids, 3- and 4-year-olds."
Sunday's final matinee brought out over 130 folks curious to see Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and Captain Hook and support the staged effort, dedicated to recovering drama teacher Gary Bowne, who was seriously injured in a car accident last October.
Throughout the play, the audience smiled and clapped at the student cast's inspired performance as the Lost Boys cavorted across the stage and eluded Captain Hook and his henchmen, leading up to the climactic confrontation between Hook and Peter Pan. After the play, children got the added treat of visiting with the entire cast in the commons area and getting their pictures taken with the stars.
"It's really fun for the actors involved," said Kate O'Hern, whose son Keenan played the role of Michael. "I was so impressed with the result and how they did it without their teacher and pulled it all together. They did a great job and had a lot of laughs."
