Buddene Eva Crandall Painter February 11, 1918 - April 1, 2012

Buddene Eva Crandall Painter died peacefully April 1 at the Hummingbird Glen Adult Foster Home, Bend.

Buddene was born in Glenns Ferry, ID, February 11, 1918, to Bud Whitcomb Crandall and Eva Eugene Hubbard Crandall. As a small child she moved with her parents to Bend. She graduated from Bend High School in 1937. She married Fred Lewis Painter October 27, 1939.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, long-time Chief of Police in Sisters, and two stepsons, Donnie Painter and Miles Painter. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dordene "Chris" Crandall Specker and Jon Specker, and many nieces and nephews in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California.

Buddene was a long-time member of Rebekah Lodge 204 of Redmond, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Redmond, and Home Extension. She was a devoted animal-lover. She cared for several orphaned bobcats and porcupines, and kept a variety of dogs and cats over the years. She was a multi-talented craftsperson and avid reader. Her kind and gentle manner, sweet smile and positive outlook on life will truly be missed.

The family would like to thank Mark Backus, MD, for his excellent care and concern for Buddene these many years. Many thanks to Becky Dobrowski and Chela Sloper of Practically Family, who watched over Buddene's affairs for the last several years. Gratitude also to foster caregiver, Lisa Belcher, and to Debbie, Annette, and Jessica of Hummingbird Glen Adult Foster Home. Buddene was also in the good hands Terry Cress-Sargent, RN. In her final days, Kami Schwenk and others at Partners in Care Hospice joined her caregivers. What a treasure all of these individuals were for our dear Buddene.

Buddene requested that her ashes be spread over Broken Top, just south of Sisters, where she lived so many years. She also requested that there be no memorial service. Memorial donations may be made to local humane societies or to Partners in Care Hospice of Bend.
