News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Almost 19 years ago - way back in 1984 - Sisters resident Norma Funai, a retired school teacher and long-time quilter, decided she wanted to quilt with others of the same ilk and formed "Casual Quilters" of Sisters.
The group is still going strong, with a membership of 14 and a lot of community-service quilts behind them.
Casual Quilters meet once a month for a snack at a member's home and discuss their families, drink a lot of tea, have a noon snack and talk quilting. In their spare time they make quilts.
They have made raffle quilts for Habitat for Humanity, Family Access Network (FAN), and Hospice of Bend, just to name a few.
Now the bevy of quilters has taken on another fundraiser for the Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL), and have named it the "Friendship Village."
This quilt project was organized by Zeta Seiple and Vicky Hughes, both members of FOSL and Casual Quilters.
Raffle tickets for the "Friendship Village" are $1, or six tickets for $5, and are available at the library reference desk during open hours. The drawing for the quilt will take place on September 11, at the regular September FOSL board meeting. You need not be present to win.
The "Friendship Village" is on display in the entrance area of the library and will be there on and off throughout the summer. It will also move around Sisters and be displayed at various events.
