News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws tennis team hosted a four-team round robin tourney at Black Butte Ranch on Saturday, May 6. Cascade, Junction City and Mt. View attended the event.
Sisters defeated Junction City 5-3, lost to Mt. View 3-5, and tied 4-4 with Cascade.
Elise Herron and Becky Thomas played together for the first time as the No. 1 duo team and won two of their three matches for the day with victories over Mt. View and Junction City. Jen Houk usually plays with Herron at the No. 1 spot but was unable to play due to a concussion.
Coach Marti Dale said, "Elise and Becky really complemented each other and it seemed as if they'd played together for a long time. They worked together and set up plays for each other really well."
Savannah Spear and Haley Carlson, at the No. 3 doubles spot, beat all three of their opponents.
"Savannah's net game was exceptional," stated Dale. "She covered the court and was great at setting Haley up at the net so she could put it away."
Chloe Stein stepped in as the No. 1 singles player, the position Thomas normally plays. Stein won her match against Cascade, tied with Junction City and lost her match to Mt. View. Chloe had a great serving performance and made some memorable plays when she came to the net and put it away on the volley.
Although Anna Peasley lost her matches, Dale was pleased with her performance at the No. 3 singles spot.
"The results didn't show her success," said Dale. "They were all close matches that could have gone either way. She was under a lot of pressure and she really hung in very well. She played a good baseline game, drove it deep and ran her opponents back and forth."
