News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys lacrosse team beat Mt. View 9-1 on Wednesday, May 2, to mark their 10th consecutive win of the season.
In the Outlaws' first meeting with the Cougars, they crushed their opponent 16-3. On Wednesday, the Outlaws faced Mt. View for the second time and took the field with confidence, ready to challenge the Cougars. Sisters' confidence was shaken when Mt. View quickly gained possession of the ball and scored the first goal of the game.
"For a moment, it appeared as if the hefty win for the Outlaws earlier might have been a fluke, but the boys quickly regrouped and fought hard to regain the lead and their pride," said Coach Bill Rexford.
Beau Fitzke responded and scored a goal to bring the game to a 1-1 tie at the close of the first quarter. Goalie Brennan Layne recorded numerous saves.
Rexford told The Nugget that the Outlaws started the second quarter with a different attitude.
"They no longer saw this game as a right, but something they needed to work for to win," said Rexford.
Fitzke put on his game face and scored two more goals for the Outlaws, William Saunders fired one past the goalie and Sisters entered the half with a 4-1 lead.
Sisters' defense was stellar the second half and held the Cougars scoreless. Fitzke and Saunders together put up three more goals for the Outlaws, and Isaiah Glatz scored a goal with an assist by Fitzke.
The fourth quarter both teams put up a good fight but neither scored a goal. At the final whistle the Outlaws charged the field to celebrate their victory.
