News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws claimed the Sky-Em District title May 7 and 8 at Tokatee Golf Club in Blue River.
Sisters carded a 348 in round one and were two strokes better at 346 on day two for a total of 694. Cottage Grove shot a 380/376 to finish runner-up with a score of 756. Junction City posted scores of 386/385/771 and Sweet Home shot 408/390/798.
Nate Pajutee led the Outlaws with an 81/79/160 and Zach Cummings was close behind with scores of 83/87/170. Jaxon Stark shot 91/90/181, Tyler Berg 93/90/183 and Nolan Ferwalt shot 110/96/206.
Pajutee, Cummings and Stark were all first-team all-district selections.
Coach Bill Mitchell stated that both Pajutee and Cummings were not pleased with their scores.
"Nate was pretty frustrated until the very last nine holes of the tournament," said Mitchell. "Then he shot nine straight pars for a 36 for the final nine holes. We're going to build on that as we head into state.
"Zach was also frustrated. He wasn't driving the ball well or doing well on the greens. His scores were higher than he expected. He's very determined to use this as motivation to play better at ... state."
Mitchell told The Nugget he felt his team had an average performance, and that they are going to focus on putting up their best scores at state. The team's best total has been 346. They hope to shoot in the 330s.
